道教(dao jiao)Daoism as religion.

道家(dao jia)Daoism as philosophy.

Daoism also written as Taoism in English.

道德经(dao de jing)also known as Tao Te Ching, is the classic learning of Daoism by Laozi in 6th. BC. The principles of universe and living, the relationships between nature and humans.

道德经 has 81 chapters of total 5,000 Chinese characters. It contains 2 main principles: 道经(dao jing)the principles of Dao - the paths and causes; 德经(de jing)the principles of virtues.

道教(dao jiao)as religion Daoism embraces Dao principles at the same time emphasizes human emotions.

Daoism has been the inspiration for art, science, politics and social structures worldwide since first being translated into Sanskrit in Tang Dynasty.

It inspires Frog&Fly today.

Dao 道, is the core of everything, is the cause of the existence of the universe, is the reason to all the WHYs.
Dao 道, is not a figure nor a God.
Dao 道, is about change and changings.

Daoism as ancient human understandings of nature and our own existence became a concept and philosophy in central China which was wildly accepted and carried on into Chinese societies and carved on Chinese mentalities as one of three cultural foundations in China alongside with Confucianism and Buddhism.

Daoism absorbed other ideas and philosophies at the time of enlightment, one of them is YiJing 易经 the principles of change from ZhouYi (The Book of Change).

Nature rules in the center of Dao philosophy, 道法自然 Dao Fa Zi Ran.
Daoism focuses on following nature’s principles - most known as 无为 Wu Wei.

Daoism has been passed on through the minds of millions. What is Dao and how to understand it have always been individually interpreted. It’s probably because Daoism has never asked anyone to follow its footsteps, only nature’s.

Frog has also her own interpretation about Dao. What’s yours?

道可道非常道
名可名非常名
无名天地之始
有名万物之母
故常无欲以观其妙
常有欲以观其徼
此两者同出而异名同谓之玄
玄之又玄众妙之门
There is Dao, the reason of everything’s existence, but Dao itself is also changing.
There is things (that created by Dao) we can put name on, but they are also changing constantly.
There was nothing before the beginning of the universe
There came everything when we began to put names on things.
Thus we can observe true Dao if we don’t name names; but if we do, we can still see the surface of Dao.
Both have the same root, both are full of wonders.
One wonder reveals another, through the doors of wonders, we discover the secrets of our world.
